Tornado Watches were issued in several counties in Kansas and Oklahoma on Wednesday as the National Weather Service warned of severe thunderstorms. Local weather websites reported that the most likely time for severe weather is going to be after sunset – between 7 PM local time and midnight. Several thunderstorms are expected to hit Kansas City between 8 PM and 11 PM.

In Oklahoma, these counties were under the tornado watch until 9 PM local time: Alfalfa, Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Custer, Dewey, Garfield, Kay, Kingfisher, Logan, Major, Noble, Oklahoma, Payne, Washita, Woods and Woodward County.

In Kansas, large cities affected by the warning included Kansas City, Overland Park, Kansas City, Kansas, Olathe, and Topeka.

The counties in Iowa affected are Adair, Adams, Appanoose, Cass, Clarke, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Fremont, Guthrie, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Page, Polk, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Tama, Taylor, Union, Wapello, Warren, and Wayne.

The counties in Missouri that are part of the designated area are Adair, Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Daviess, Dekalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Mercer, Nodaway, Putnam, Schuyler, Sullivan, and Worth.

In Oklahoma, a cold front and dryline are driving storm formation, especially west of I-35, with the Oklahoma City metro region likely to experience severe weather around 8-10 PM. Some of these storms may develop into isolated tornadoes, according to local meteorologists.
