A 14-year-old Bangladesh boy has survived after he was filmed being run over by a train. The teen, later identified as Likhan, was standing close to a railway track for a TikTok video when the train hit him from behind near Singimari Railway Bridge in Rangpur on Thursday, October 24.
Footage from the now-viral incident shows a group of five friends taking selfies on the railway track, run and managed by Bangladesh Railway’s Rangpur Division. As they hear the train approaching, four of them scuttle to the trackside, joining a fifth who was filming from the sidelines.
Likhan, after lingering on the track a little longer than other teens, decides to stand in the middle of the frame, which meant risking personal safety to hog the footage. He appears to do a little dance before posing with his hands in his pocket.
About 10 seconds into the TikTok clip, Likhan is knocked to the ground as the train hits his right shoulder. For the next 42 seconds, the video shows his friends running in panic as they attempt to process what had just happened.
The young victim was taken to Rangpur Medical College, where doctors with the Neurosurgery Department treated him for his injuries. It’s not everyday that someone survives a train runover, making Likhan’s case exceptionally rare.
When news of the seemingly “miraculous” event hit social media, people had mixed reactions.
“If this incident made him realize his mistake, he will never do something like this again nd if he does, even god won’t be able to save him next time,” said an X user.
Another, commenting on Likhan’s survival update, wrote, “Good to hear that, poor kid. god saved him a ton, his family should be thankful though he may have some serious injuries”
Railway authorities in Bangladesh have yet to comment on the incident.
