President Joe Biden wants to get on the campaign trail to extend his support for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris ahead of the elections on November 5, but has been kept on hold by her team, Axios reported on Sunday citing sources. According to the media outlet, Biden is repeatedly informed that Harris will respond back. However, there is no update.
Currently, there are no public events scheduled for both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to appear together ahead of the final day of election. The President stepped down as the presumptive nominee in July and immediately endorsed his 2020 running mate Harris.
"There is always speculation in political circles, but this is not accurate. We are in close touch with the campaign to determine when, where and how the president can be helpful," White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates reacted to the report.
President Biden has campaigned with Harris a few times, including in Pittsburgh on Saturday and on October 15 when he addressed the Philadelphia Democratic City Committee Autumn Dinner. According to Axios, the president's solo campaigning in Pittsburgh had surprised some from the the VP's campaign.
The report also added that Biden garnered less attention in comparison to prominent Democrat leaders such as ex-president Barack Obama who was seen campaigning for Harris in Georgia and Michigan recently.
What Kamala Harris Said About President Biden
Harris has praised Biden's presidency and has mostly refrained from denigrating him. The Vice President has also defended Biden on many interview occasions, including the questions about his age and health-related matters.
However, at the same time Harris has assured voters that she won't be following the exact footsteps of the Biden presidency.
