The IPL 2025 retention date is just four days away and the fans are eagerly waiting for a word on their favourite players. The franchises have to submit the list of retained players to the BCCI by October 31. While the franchises will aim to retain their core before the auction, some teams could be without the services of even their captains.
Multiple reports have suggested that Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer could be back in the mega-auction. Here, we have a look at four captains who could be released before the IPL 2025 mega-auction –
Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant is one of the captains who could get released before the IPL 2025 mega-auction. There are reports that Rishabh could be part of the auction. The exact reason behind Rishabh reportedly not staying with Delhi Capitals (DC) isn't known.
He joined DC as a youngster in IPL 2016 and has been part of the team since then. Rishabh took over as DC's skipper in 2021. DC are yet to win the IPL title.
Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer could also be part of the IPL 2025 mega-auction despite leading Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a title win in the previous season. Should Iyer be part of the auction, KKR can still retain him via their Right to Match card. But the reports of Iyer reportedly being part of the auction are quite surprising.
KL Rahul
KL Rahul looks all but set to get released by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He joined LSG before IPL 2022 and has had a three-year stint with them so far. LSG haven't played an IPL final yet. The franchise is unlikely to use the RTM card on him. Rahul should be in huge demand if he part of the mega-auction.
Faf du Plessis
A report recently suggested that Virat Kohli is likely to be Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) only retention, which means Faf du Plessis will be back in the auction. While RCB made it to the second round of IPL 2022 and 2024, they didn't play an IPL final under du Plessis.
