The Lincoln Lawyer premiered its 10-episode Season 3 on October 17. Based on Michael Connelly’s novels about a hotshot lawyer named Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), the series has already debuted in second place on Netflix’s global Top 10 charts with 7 million views. But after that shocking season 3 finale, what fans really want to know, is Mickey going be arrested? We break down that crazy cliffhanger and how it will lead to season 4. MAJOR SPOILERS ahead!

Mickey Haller and the Glory Days murder

Mickey finally gets justice in the murder of former client Gloria Dayton aka Glory Days (Fiona Rene) as he protects his new client Julian La Cosse (Devon Graye) from a corrupt DEA agent and former police investigator. With the help of his team Izzy (Jazz Raycole), Lorna (Becki Newton), and Cisco (Angus Sampson), the foursome manage to prove Julian is innocent. They celebrate their latest victory and send Mickey off on a much-needed vacation.

However, as Mickey sets off in blue Lincoln Continental convertible through Los Angeles, he is pulled over by the cops for a missing licence plate. However, the routine stop turns nightmarish after blood is found dripping from the trunk, leading the officer to discover the dead body of a man. Who is it? The third season was based on Connelly’s novel titled The Gods of Guilt, which also the name of the Season 3 finale.

Who is in Mickey's trunk?

Fans who have been playing close attention every episode will note that the dead boy is actually Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton), Mickey’s former client. This season, he becomes Lorna’s first client as she saves him from a medical scam charge. But things are not looking good for Mickey as he is arrested at the end of Season 3. What does this mean for Season 4?

Netflix hasn't officially renewed the legal drama for Season 4. However, showrunner and executive producer Ted Humphrey told Tudum, “As far as what it all means, hopefully we will be able to show you in Season 4. But clearly, the only thing Mickey could be thinking is, ‘WTF?’”

Logically, the next season will cover Connelly's next book The Law of Innocence. In the 2020 thriller, Mickey is charged with murder and chooses to defend himself. Knowing he has been framed of a crime he didn’t commit, he must trust his team to prove he is innocent. Depending on when the season is finally announced, fans will have to endure a year’s wait from then to find out how Mickey’s case concludes.
