‘yeh hamaare liye toh bahut hairaani waali baat hai …’: pakistani influencer left in awe by china’s futuristic tech

A video by Pakistani content creator Rana Hamza Saif has captured widespread attention, showcasing China’s innovative palm payment technology. The video, filmed in Zhuzhou and shared on Instagram, features Saif and his friends experiencing the seamless system in action at a local grocery store, where they use only their palms to make a purchase. Saif and his friends are visibly amazed, or "hairaan," at the ease and futuristic feel of the technology.

In the video, Saif details the registration process for the palm payment system, explaining that once a palm is registered, users can pay anywhere in China with just a wave of their hand—no need for physical cards or smartphones. His friends watch in awe, clearly astonished by the system’s simplicity and security benefits.

This isn’t the first time China’s palm payment technology has impressed on social media. In April, Harsh Goenka, chairman of RPG Group, posted a video of a woman in Beijing demonstrating the payment method on the subway. The woman, in her caption, notes, “Technology continues to simplify our lives….” She first links her palm to her payment account and then swipes her hand over the turnstile at the Daxing Airport Express Line subway station, where her WeChat wallet is automatically charged for her fare. She comments, “The whole palm payment experience was smooth. Even though palm payment is mostly limited for transportation for the time being, in future it could be adopted by stores, restaurants and many other venues.”

Tencent, a major Chinese technology firm, introduced this Weixin Palm Payment system in Beijing in June 2023, and it has quickly become a convenient, cutting-edge solution for cashless transactions.
