will ms dhoni retire? csk legend drops massive hint on ipl future ahead of retention deadline day

MS Dhoni’s IPL future has been the subject of discussion. The former Indian skipper has been a pivotal part of Chennai Super Kings but ahead of the IPL retention deadline, Dhoni now addressed his IPL future.

During a promotional event, Dhoni confirmed his participation in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. CSK will have the option to retain Dhoni as an uncapped player for a mere four crore, thanks to a rule which BCCI decided to revive after initially scrapping it in 2021.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was handed the mantle last season from Dhoni and the 43 year old is unlikely to lead CSK on the pitch in IPL 2025. But if Dhoni remains on CSK’s books it would mean the five time IPL champions are planning the upcoming season around his presence.

As quoted by the Times of India Dhoni said, "I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play.

"When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That's what I want to do. It's not easy. The emotions keep coming, the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years."

Dhoni made it clear he tries to keep himself fit for nine months in order to be involved for two and a half months of IPL.

"I have to keep myself fit for nine months, so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time chill a bit.”

It remains to be seen in what capacity Dhoni comes back in IPL 2025 as CSK will definitely want to come out with all guns blazing after having a disappointing IPL 2024.
