The National Heroes Day in Jamaica turned into a bitter and unfortunate event as 5 people were shot during a football match in Kingston on Monday night local time. The friendly football match took place in Pleasant Height, Rockfort in the Kingston area and there's no clarity whatsoever, as what led to the shooting.
It has been reported that out of the 5 people, 4 male has been identified as the victims, who all lost their lives in the unfortunate incident. The gunmen was present at the football match and apart from taking lives of the 5 people, they have also injured several people in the process.
TheJamaica Gleaner Newspaper reported that the Pleasant Heights place has always been one of those areas, which has been involved in gang violence.
A curfew of 48 hours has been implemented in the area following the incident, which caused mass hysteria.
Superintendent Tommilee Chambers revealed that all of the shooting took place after 8 PM local time.
"We have been having peace in the Rockfort community for over two years," she said.
Assistant Commissioner, Donovan Graham, the head of Police Area 4 said that many of the injured people were rushed to the hospital.
“Let me express my deep condolences to the family members of those who perished in this very brutal attack where five persons were killed,” Prime Minister Andrew Holness addressed the issue.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Kingston Eastern Division told that one of the shooters was killed in the operation on Monday night and his rifle has also been retrieved.
