Digital scams are a new threat posed to the digital world. ICICI Bank recently gave a warning to alert their customers about the new parcel scam which is tricking many innocent people into sharing their personal information with the scammer. The people behind these scams pose as police officials or officials from the Customs Department and they trick the victims into believing that a parcel addressed to their name contains illegal substances like narcotics, and can face legal punishments. This psychological trick on the vulnerability and fear of the victims pushes them to share their crucial financial information.
This warning was issued to the customers via email by the ICICI Bank. In the email, they alerted their customers about courier/parcel scammers who were impersonating Customs Department/Police officials and extracting sensitive financial and personal information from the victims. The bank said the following, “They also ask the victims to initiate money transfers to a fake RBI Account and provide their Aadhaar numbers and other identification details apart from the Bank information to steal the money.”

- Stop-scammers will try their best to extract personal/confidential/financial information from the victims. Stop right there and do not transfer any amount or share any vital personal information with these people.
- Think- Before blindly giving in to the tricks of these scammers, think and suspect the possibility of that call being a scam or a fraud.
- Protect- If something seems to be suspicious, protect yourself from falling into the trap and act quickly.
- Report- Any incident of fraud should be immediately reported to the National Cyber Crime portal cybercrime.gov.in or you can also call the helpline number 1930.
In the face of such situations, the vigilance and smartness of the customers are crucial for financial security and responsibility in this digitized world.
