couple gets married underwater in the red sea to put the spotlight on saudi arabia’s marine life

How far would you go for love? Turkey, Bali or Thailand? One couple took things up a notch when they decided to tie the knot in an extraordinary underwater ceremony in the shimmering waters of the Red Sea. They literally took a plunge together, and shared vows underwater, with more friends in attendance! This unique event not only celebrated their love but also aimed to shine a spotlight on the rich marine life in Saudi Arabia.

While stories of destination weddings are aplenty, this is certainly one that has not been heard of. The Red Sea, known for its coral reefs and diverse marine ecosystems, served as the setting for this innovative wedding of Hassan Abu Al-Ola and Yasmine Daftardar, who are both passionate divers. The couple chose to exchange vows off the coast of Jeddah amidst the crystal-clear waters teeming with colourful fish and stunning coral formations to raise awareness about the importance of preserving these fragile ecosystems. The event was organised by the local diving group, Saudi Divers, led by Captain Faisal Flemban, according to Gulf News, and also saw a small group of fellow divers attend the ceremony.

"It was indeed a surprise," Hassan Abu Ola said in an interview as per Gulf News. "After we geared up, Captain Faisal and the team told us they had planned to celebrate our wedding right there under the sea. It was a beautiful and unforgettable experience." The duo, who are both experienced divers, managed to complete the ceremony with ease. “Alhamdulillah, there were no challenges," Abu Ola noted. "The celebration went smoothly, and everyone was amazed by how unconventional and spectacular it was."
