Home Minister Amit Shah has issued a warning to those behind the "dastardly" terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal that has resulted in at least three casualties, according to unconfirmed reports. "The dastardly terror attack on civilians in Gagangir, J&K, is a despicable act of cowardice. Those involved in this heinous act will not be spared and will face the harshest response from our security forces," Amit Shah wrote in a post on X. "At this moment of immense grief, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured."
Terror Attack Targets Non-Local Labourers In Ganderbal
At least three labourers were reported to be killed and many others seriously wounded in a major terror attack in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district on Sunday. The terror attack happened in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal, while the labourers were working on a tunnel connecting Gangangir to Sonmarg. One of the deceased has been identified as Gurmeet Singh (30) of Punjab. The injured have been shifted to SKIMS Soura, Srinagar, for treatment. The Jammu and Kashmir Police said on X: "Terror incident in Gagangir, Ganderbal. The area was cordoned off by security forces. Further details shall follow."
Meanwhile, DGP, J&K and IGP, Kashmir, have reached the spot to supervise the search operation.
CM Omar Abdullah Condemns Attack
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, "Very sad news of a dastardly & cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people & send my condolences to their loved ones."
In a separate tweet, he added that the number of casualties is not yet confirmed.
Earlier on Friday, a bullet-ridden body of non local street vendor was recovered in Shopian, south Kashmir.
Through an unverified social media handle, TRF, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba claimed responsibility for the attack.
Congress condemns attack
The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra condemned the attack, expressing grave concern over the frequency of the attacks by unknown gunmen on non-local labourers.
He said such incidents will vitiate the atmosphere and urged the government to take immediate measures to contain such brutal attacks on innocent people.
'An Act Against Humanity': DPAP
Former Chief Minister and Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad also condemned the killings, calling them "an act against humanity."
"Strongly condemn the killing of two non local innocent labourers in the Gagangir area in Ganderbal, Kashmir. This is the third killing in the last three days–an act against humanity. The enemies of peace must be dealt with firmly. My condolences to their families and prayers for the injured!" he wrote in a post on X.
