New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced special early morning services to accommodate participants of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, which will take place on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. To ensure timely transportation for marathon runners, metro trains will begin operating from 3:15 AM on all lines except the Airport Express Line and the Grey Line (Dhansa Bus Stand to Dwarka).

The early morning services will operate as follows:

  • From 3:15 AM to 4:00 AM, trains will run with a 15-minute frequency.
  • From 4:00 AM to 6:00 AM, trains will run every 20 minutes.
  • After 6:00 AM, metro services will follow the regular Sunday schedule across all lines.

For the convenience of the commuters, the marathon organisers will deploy volunteers at key metro stations, including Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Jour Bagh, Janpath, Jangpura, and Rajiv Chowk.

Participants of the marathon will enjoy free metro rides to and from the event venue, with the event organisers sponsoring the travel costs. DMRC has provided QR tickets, and runners will receive wristbands with special QR codes when they collect their bibs from the organisers.

In another news, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday urged the public to embrace public transport to alleviate road congestion as well as to minimise air pollution during the upcoming festive season.

"In view of the festival season and likely implementation of various stages of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) owing to pollution levels in the city around this time of the year, the Delhi Metro will be running additional train trips, ensuring that the frequency of metro trains is increased on special occasions and during the GRAP Stage-II and III implementation by the authorities, to accommodate the expected higher demand," the DMRC posted on X.
