Many districts of Andhra Pradesh are witnessing heavy rains since morning. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains till Thursday, October 17. The state government has announced holiday for schools and colleges across Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore, and Prakasam districts till October 17, 2024. Based on the IMD report, heavy rains are likely in Krishna, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, Chittoor, and Annamaiya districts on Monday.

It has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and Rayalaseema from Monday to Thursday. It also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in parts of SCAP, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam and Rayalaseema over the next four days. Squally winds reaching up to speeds of 60 km per hour (KMPH) are expected in the affected places. "A cyclonic circulation lies over west-central Bay of Bengal off south coastal Andhra Pradesh and extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height," said the Met Department in a release.

Chennai Schools Closed Tomorrow

Schools, Colleges will be closed tomorrow in Chennai and 4 other districts. Indian Meteorological Department, IMD has issued an Orange Alert for October 15 and red alert for October 16. School holiday has been announced tomorrow in Chennai, Chengalpet, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram.
