According to a report by Livemint, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) is ready to issue an order against WhatsApp for breaking Indian competition regulations.

1. The CCI’s probe originates from WhatsApp’s contentious 2021 privacy policy amendment, which let the messaging network to share specific user data with its parent company, Meta Platforms Inc. (formerly Facebook Inc.). This upgrade has caused great worry among regulators globally.

2. The CCI’s director general of inquiry (DG) ruled that WhatsApp and Meta misused their dominant market positions, violating Indian competition rules. The DG’s conclusions were shared with the CCI, which has draughted an order that is scheduled to be finalised and issued shortly.
