The winding lanes of Delhi have continued to regale travellers with stories of kings and queens; each historical monument and house has memories etched deep in its foundation. There is much to explore and learn, and this is where heritage walks allow you to truly immerse yourself in the culture and history of India’s capital city.

And now, the city, with its layers of history, will come alive through the Delhi Heritage Walk Festival, which promises 80 days of immersive exploration into the city's rich past. The festival, which was kicked off at the Mutiny Memorial at Kamla Nehru Ridge in Civil Lines on October 10 and will run till December 31, offers participants a chance to explore around 100 historical sites across the capital, showcasing Delhi's centuries-old heritage. From the Mughal marvels of Old Delhi to the British-era structures in Lutyens' Delhi, each walk offers an opportunity to engage with the architectural splendours and cultural legacies of the capital.

The festival, which caters to history buffs and curious travellers, will focus on Delhi’s lesser-known gems as well as its iconic landmarks. Participants can look forward to exploring hidden mosques, bustling markets, centuries-old havelis, and historical gardens that dot the city. During the inaugural heritage walk, Delhi’s tourism minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj, emphasised the significance of hundreds of lesser-known heritage sites that remain largely unexplored by both the public and the younger generation. This year’s edition of the Heritage Walk Festival is set to be the largest ever, with an expansive itinerary that includes visits to 100 diverse historical landmarks.
