After India's disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup, captain Harmanpreet Kaur candidly assessed her team's performance and highlighted the key areas where Australia excelled.
"I think their entire team contribute, they don't depend on one or two players, they have a lot of all-rounders who contribute. We also planned well and we were there in the game. They didn't gave away easy runs and made it difficult. They are an experienced side," explained Kaur in the post-match press conference.
Harmanpreet waged a lone battle, striking an unbeaten 54, but she could not help her team get past the finishing line. This result was a huge blow to India's semifinal chances. India has now ended its Group A campaign on four points after two wins and two losses.
The women in blue now face a complex scenario in which their qualifications depend on the outcome of the match between Pakistan and New Zealand. If New Zealand win the game then they will storm into the final four.
With Australia marching into the semifinals undefeated, the defeat meant India will now have to wait for the outcome of third-placed New Zealand's match against Pakistan on Monday.
One of the most significant differences between the two teams was their ability to handle pressure situations. Australia demonstrated remarkable composure and executed its plans with precision under pressure. In contrast, India often appeared to crumble when the stakes were high.
"We want to win every game we play, India came really hard at us, the girls played really well and I'm proud of them. The whole team got around me, a lot of players in different roles today and they stepped up," said Tahlia McGrath, Australia stand-in captain.
