The Centre on Sunday revoked President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir before swearing-in ceremony of Omar Abdullah as the Chief Minister of the union territory. The Central Government issued a gazette notification in this regard.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 73 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 (34 of 2019) read with articles 239 and 239A of the Constitution of India, the Order dated the 31st October, 2019 in relation to the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir shall stand revoked immediately before the appointment of the Chief Minister under section 54 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019," the notification read.
After the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A President Rule was imposed in UT in October 2019. J&K was also divided into two union territories – J&K and Ladakh.
In the recently concluded assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congres-National COnference alliance won 48 seats. Out of these seats, the NC bagged 42 seats, while six were won by the Congress. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 29 seats, while Mehbooba Mufti-led People's Democratic Party (PDP) secured only three seats.
The NC-Congress alliance claimed the stake to form the government. On Saturday, Omar Abdullah met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to give the letter of support from allies.
