vicky vidya ka woh walavideo movie review: rajkummar-triptii's 90s-style love story is cringey, chaotic comedy ride

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Movie Review: Remember the 90s playlist, the wedding videos we now call ‘cringe,’ the hiding of relationships from parents, the pretence to hate each other in front of others… well Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is a true mixture of all this. This film is a nostalgia kick for all the 90s kids with Kumar Sanu’s songs working like icing on the cake.

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Movie Review: Plot

Rajkummar Rao plays Vicky, a local henna artist of Rishikesh (back then it was Uttar Pradesh) and he is in love with Triptii Dimri aka Vidya, a doctor. His successful attempt to break Vidya's engagement with a lawyer Bittoo is worth lauding and the punchlines are cherry on top.

The film has a true 90s feel with the two getting married in a samuhik vivah and then getting the wedding video made just like old times. Attention to detail is so beautiful that even Triptii’s makeup and jewelry in the film will give nostalgia. As the couple ties the knot, they receive a honeymoon package to Vaishno Devi from the girl’s father which they turn into a romantic getaway to Goa.

As the couple reaches Goa, Vicky is super excited to try something he read an article about, how foreigners record their intimate moments in a video camera. Vidya, who first opposes the idea later gets on board, and well, they make the video!

As they return from their honeymoon, one fine day, they think of watching the tape in their second-hand CD player, which gets stolen overnight along with other important things from the house.

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Review: Characters

Amid all this chaos, returns Vicky's sister Chanda, which is also the name of their househelp. Chanda is Mallika Sherawat, a hot, unmarried woman who has eloped many times just in search of love. Chanda gets a proposal from Pardesi, a photographer and the brother-in-law of the area's politician played by Mukesh Tiwari.

Vicky is on a mission of finding the lost CD. From buying local 'blue films' to searching the chor bazaar, Vidya, who has no idea that the CD has been stolen wants to watch it again. Vicky tries to avoid the situation and ends up making Vidya suspicious about his love affair, spoiler alert, there isn’t any!

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Movie Review: What works

Vicky's struggle in trying to get the Rajkummar Rao-Triptii Dimri's 90s-Style Love Story Is Cringey, Chaotic Comedy Ridey gives his best shot to get the CD back, the local Police officer, played by none other than Vijay Raj falls in love with Chanda, played by Mallika Sherawat, who by the way hates marriage.

Finally, when Vicky cracks who stole his CD, the thief goes into a comma leaving him a suspect for it. The prison and reporter drama will definitely make you ROFL as the dialogues are really creative.

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Review: What doesn't work

As the thief, Badshah recovers from his comma, the real goons are introduced and finally, it is confirmed that they are the ones having 'the video.' Making a deal for the CD they call Vicky and Vidya to the graveyard and here's when you will feel that the story has been stretched unnecessarily. There are a few twists and turns here, connecting the dots with one more film of the lead actor.

After a lot of struggle, finally the two get their CD back only to know that this was not the one they shot in Goa but, there was an MMS made of the two on their wedding night!

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Movie Review: Verdict

Who made the MMS? What happened when they found out about all of it? Where on Earth is the Goa video? Well, you gotta book tickets right away to know all of this but the message, in the end, will definitely move you, it suggests how some intimate things must be kept that way… parde mein rehne do, parda naa uthaao, a true justice to this is Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.
