England batsmen punished the Pakistani bowlers in their first innings of the Multant Test match. On a pitch where Pakistan were bowled out for 556, England breached the 800-run mark and put on a total of 823 on the board before the captain declared the innings. Harry Brook continued his dream run in Pakistan and slammed a triple-century.
Brook had scored three back-to-back centuries in as many Test matches on the previous tour to the country. There was no stopping Brook upon his return to Pakistan and he scored a triple-century.
Joe Root also looked set to breach the 300-run mark but he missed out. The former England captain departed for 262. While the England batsmen were having the time of their lives on the pitch, the Pakistani bowlers created an unwanted record.
The Shaheen Afridi-headed bowling attack broke a 20-year-old record and for only the second time in history, as many as six bowlers leaked more than 100 runs in an innings. Previously, the record was solely held by Zimbabwe.
Shaheen leaked 120 runs in his 26-over spell. He bowled the only maiden over of England's innings. Naseem Shah went for 157 runs while Abrar Ahmed spent 174 runs without taking a wicket. Aamer Jamal, Saim Ayub and Agha Salman went for 126, 101 and 118 runs, respectively.
On the same pitch, the England's bowlers bowled a total of 21 maiden overs. Pakistan's poor bowling performance saw England breach the 800-run mark and put on a total of 823/7 on the board, gaining a lead of 267 runs.
Pakistan made a forgettable start to their second innings and lost a wicket on the very first ball. Babar Azam, who came out to bat at number 4, once again disappointed and was dismissed for just 5 runs off 15 balls. Pakistan have lost 4 wickets for just 41 runs and they are close to another defeat at home.
