first time in 92 years! india achieve never-done-before feat with 7 bowlers taking a wicket in win over bangladesh

The Indian cricket team achieved a never-done-before feat during their 86-run victory against Bangladesh in the second T20I of the three-match series against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday (October 9).

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the hosts put up a huge total of 221 on the board with half-centuries from Nitsh Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh. Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh gave the Men in Blue a quick-fire finish with entertaining cameos. In reply, the Bangladesh batting unit was outclassed and managed to score 135 runs in their allocated 20 overs.

India Create History In Delhi T20I

The Indian bowling performance saw a rare sight as Suryakumar Yadav gave the bowl to seven bowlers (Arshdeep Singh, Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakravarthy, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, and Abhishek Sharma), and all of them returned with at least one wicket.

This is the first instance of any Indian team in history having as many as seven bowlers take a wicket in an innings in any format of the game. Although the Indian cricket team played their first international match 92 years ago (1932), never have seven different bowlers taken a wicket for them in an innings in either Tests, ODIs, or T20Is before today.

In fact, this rare feat has been achieved just four times in Test cricket and 10 times in ODIs (7 full member teams). This was the 9th instance of the same happening in a T20I game, and India has become just the fourth full member nation to achieve the feat in the shortest format of the game.

Till now, there has been no instance of eight bowlers taking a wicket in an innings in any form of international cricket.

Last year in a 2023 ODI World Cup game against the Netherlands in Bengaluru, as many as nine bowlers rolled their arm over for India, and six got a wicket to their name.

Talking about today's match, India managed to achieve the rare feat despite Hardik Pandya not bowling a single over. Even Suryakumar and Rinku Singh did not bowl despite their memorable effort against Sri Lanka earlier this year.
