Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, died on Wednesday in Mumbai. Several leaders and businessmen including Harsh Goenka and Anand Mahindra paid their tributes to the 86-year-old. Prime Minister Modi remembered him as ‘a visionary business leader and compassionate soul’. Tata was undergoing treatment in critical condition and was in intensive care.

He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness and an unwavering commitment to making our society better," PM Modi said.

"Saddened by the passing away of Shri Ratan Tata. He was a Titan of the Indian industry known for his monumental contributions to our economy, trade and industry. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and admirers. May his soul rest in peace," Rajnath Singh tweeted.
CM Mamata Banerjee tweeted: "Saddened by the demise of Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Sons. The former Chairman of Tata Group had been a foremost leader of Indian industries and a public-spirited philanthropist. His demise will be an irreparable loss for Indian business world and society. My condolences to all his family members and colleagues."
