New Delhi: Haryana assembly election results dashed all hopes for Congress which was hoping to make a comeback to the state after a fairly decent outing in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. With BJP staring at a severe anti-incumbency, the grand-old party was eying a return to power in the state after a decade. The exit polls had also boosted Congress’ hope of a return as almost all major pollsters had predicted the BJP to lose this election. Despite all these factors, the BJP made a remarkable turnaround, look all but set to form the next government in the state, leaving the Congress leadership to introspect as to what went wrong for them.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, Priyanka Chaturvedi, who is also an important ally in the INDIA Bloc-led by Congress, raised concerns after Haryana drubbing. Chaturvedi also pointed out that the "Congress always falls short whenever there is a direct fight with the BJP," highlighting party's failure to counter BJP's narrative despite the anti-incumbency factor favouring them heavily.
"Though the results have not yet been announced but the trends so far shows that despite severe anti-incumbency against the BJP, they look set to form the next government. For that I would like to congratulate them," Chaturvedi said.
"They ran a good campaign, gained the trust of people of Haryana despite anger and Congress also needs to introspect that somewhere whenever there is a direct fight with the BJP, they fall short," she added.
As per the latest trends, the BJP is all set to form the next government in Haryana. The saffron party is leading on 48 seats whereas the Congress is ahead on 37 seats. Though the final tally will be out by the evening, the trends now look more or less settled, however, the final outcome will only be clear after the counting of votes is completed.
