Chris Woakes pulled off a stunning catch on the second day of play in the first Test between England and Pakistan at Multan on Tuesday (October 8), which reminded many of Suryakumar Yadav's stunning catch in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, but the third umpire sparked major controversy by taking a bold call and denying the visitors a wicket, which meant the star all-rounder's effort went in vain.
The incident happened in the 117th over of the innings when Agha Salman attempted to smash Jack Leach for a six over the long-off boundary. However, Woakes showed incredible athletism after he held the ball, released it in the air, went past the boundary line, and came back in the field of play to complete the catch.

While Woakes and the England team were confident of the catch, the third umpire declared it not-out and gave Salman a second life. The England star was adjuged to have touched the boundary line with the ball still in his hand while peddling backwards.

Salman made the most of his second chance and scored the third Test century of his career. The Pakistan batter also completed 1000 runs in his Test career having never batted above number seven. The 30-year-old finished unbeaten with a knock of 104.

Agha was one of three Pakistan players to score a century in the innings after they won the toss and chose to bat first. Opening batter Abdullah Shafique made 102 runs while skipper Shan Masood scored his first Test ton after four years and made 151 runs.
Pakistan finished with a massive total of 556 on the board. England lose the services of Ben Duckett due to an injury while stand-in captain Ollie Pope departed after making a duck.
