Playing pickleball in the doubles category is very different from singles. Like in any other racquet sport, doubles rules are different from those in the singles category. Similarly, playing pickleball is an entirely different ball game when playing doubles, as compared to singles.
For all the pickleball enthusiasts hoping to ace their doubles game, there is one drill that can help players practice how to train for doubles even without four players on the court. The drill is called 'skinny singles' and it helps athletes train themselves to play doubles by focusing on keeping the ball on one side of the court.
What is the drill: 'Skinny Singles'
Skinny singles, despite the name, this is probably the number one drill to improve your doubles game.
Start off cross-court and play on the two halves that you and your opponent start on. When you score a point, switch to the other side while your opponent stays. Now you will play straight on. You only switch serving sides if you score a point.
An easy way to keep track of the score is if your score is even, you’re on the right side. If your score is odd, you're on the left side.

How 'skinny singles' helps train for doubles?
The reason why this is such a great drill is because it forces you to be precise and more accurate. It works on all the skills needed to be a good doubles player. You can work on your drops, drives, dinks, and even lobs— whatever you want to work on, this is the perfect space to practice.
Therefore, through the 'skinny singles' drill, athletes can train themselves for the grilling fast-paced game of doubles even if there are just two people present on the court.
