Passengers on Qantas flight QF59 from Sydney to Haneda were in for a shocking surprise when an explicit movie, "Daddio" (2023), suddenly played on all screens due to a technical glitch in the in-flight entertainment system. The R-rated film's graphic content, including sexual material and nudity, left flyers, especially families with children, aghast and discomforted
Passengers were shocked and unable to turn off the raunchy content, which included exposed genitals and graphic nudity. One passenger shared on Reddit, "It was impossible to pause, dim, or turn it off. It was super uncomfortable for everyone, especially with families and kids on board."
Qantas confirmed the incident, explaining that a technical malfunction prevented individual film selections. Crew members attempted to resolve the issue by asking passengers for movie preferences, which led to "Daddio" being played for the entire cabin. When it became clear the film was unsuitable, crew members tried to address the situation by fixing the screens for passengers who wanted to avoid it. However, when this proved impossible, the movie was replaced with a more kid-friendly option.
In a statement, a Qantas spokesperson apologised for the mishap, saying, "The movie was clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight, and we sincerely apologise to customers for this experience." The airline is reviewing how the movie was selected, as playing family-friendly films is standard practice in such situations.
The incident has left passengers disconcerted, and Qantas is working to ensure such a technical glitch doesn't happen again.
