Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has declined numerous films throughout her career. Karisma Kapoor took over the role in Raja Hindustani after the actress rejected it. Kajol replaced her in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Sanjay Leela Bhansali had initially planned to cast Aishwarya and Salman in Bajirao Mastani, but after their breakup, the couple did not wish to work together onscreen.
