west indies suffer major blow: four star players opt out of sri lanka t20 series

The West Indies cricket team has faced a major setback as they prepare for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Four key players – Andre Russell, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, and Akeal Hosein – have chosen not to participate in the T20I squad due to personal reasons.

The absence of these influential players is expected to have a significant impact on the West Indies' performance in the three-match T20I series. Russell, Pooran, and Hetmyer have played pivotal roles in the team's recent achievements, while Hosein has been a dependable spin bowling option.

To fill the void left by the departing players, the West Indies Cricket Board has recalled Evin Lewis to the T20I squad. Lewis, who last appeared in a T20I during the 2022 T20 World Cup, will be looking to make a strong comeback and contribute to the team's success.

In addition to Lewis, Brandon King has also been included in the Windies T20I squad for the upcoming series.

"The tour of Sri Lanka gives us a chance to test our depth and assess players in different situations, especially with several senior players missing out for various reasons, including a need for rest and rehabilitation from injury," Sammy said in a CWI statement.

"We are confident in the squad's ability to compete strongly against Sri Lanka."
