New Delhi: India’s stock markets closed the final trading session of the week on a negative note, with both the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 weighed down by selling across sectors. The BSE Sensex dropped by 808.65 points, or 0.98 per cent, to close at 81,688.45. Throughout the day, the index traded between 81,532.68 and 83,368.32.

Similarly, the Nifty50 index fell 200.25 points, or 0.79 per cent, ending the day at 25,049.85. It moved within a range of 24,966.80 and 25,485.05 during Friday’s session.

Top Losers

Out of the 50 Nifty50 constituent stocks, 37 ended in the red. Key laggards included Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, Nestle India, BPCL, and Hero MotoCorp, which saw losses of up to 3.54 per cent.

Top Gainers

Meanwhile, Infosys, ONGC, HDFC Life Insurance, Tata Motors, and Wipro were among the 13 gainers, with the highest rise being 1.51 per cent.

Broader Market And Sector-Wise Performance

The broader market also struggled, as the Nifty Midcap 1000 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices fell by 1.01 per cent and 0.90 per cent, respectively. Sectors like FMCG, Auto, Media, Realty, and OMCs saw declines of over 1 per cent, with the Nifty Media index taking the hardest hit, dropping 2.53 per cent.

Sectors In Gain

On a brighter note, the IT and PSU Bank sectors managed to buck the trend, gaining 0.45 per cent and 0.61 per cent, respectively.
