The ninth edition of the Women's T20 World Cup is all set to begin on Thursday, with hosts Bangladesh taking on Scotland in Sharjah. That game will be followed by an all-Asian encounter between Asia Cup champion Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Political unrest in Bangladesh forced ICC to shift the 10-team event to the UAE in August but since they still hold the hosting rights, Bangladesh will play the opening match.
The heavyweights, Australia, will step onto the field as the defending champions under the leadership of Alyssa Healy. They will be the team to beat once again, having won the last three editions and six out of the eight editions played till now.
The Indian women's team, who haven't managed to win an ICC trophy yet, will look to end their drought under the able leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur. They are one team that always challenges Australia but have hitherto not been able to cross the final hurdle.

Sri Lanka will come into the T20 World Cup with boosted confidence after their recent Asia Cup 2024 win and Bangladesh will aim to make a mark as the host country. In a landmark move, ICC announced that the tournament will have the same prize money as the men’s tournament.
According to the decision, the winners of the tournament will receive USD 2.34 million (over Rs 19 crore), a huge 134% increase from the USD 1 million awarded to Australia in the previous edition held in South Africa last year.

Two matches will be played on most days at the Women's T20 World Cup. The first game begins at 3:30 pm IST while the second starts at 7:30 pm IST. On October 3, Bangladesh will play Scotland at 3:30 pm in Sharjah, while Pakistan will face Sri Lanka at 7:30 pm at the same venue. The tournament will be broadcast on Star Sports Network in India. The live-streaming will be available on Disney+Hotstar.
India play their opening game against New Zealand on October 4 in Dubai at 7:30 pm IST.
