Lucknow: A delivery boy working for Flipkart was brutally murdered in the Chinhat area of Lucknow. The assailants had initially ordered two expensive mobile phones online and, upon the delivery boy’s arrival, strangled him to death. Following the murder, they discarded the body in the Indiranahar canal and abandoned the victim’s motorcycle in a different area, making away with approximately Rs 35,000 in cash that the victim had on him.

Thirty-year-old Bharat Kumar, who hailed from Sambhai village in Amethi district, was living in a rented accommodation on Satarikh Road in Chinhat. He had been missing since September 24, prompting his brother, Prem, to file a missing person report at the Chinhat police station on September 25. After investigating the case, police managed to arrest a suspect named Akash through CCTV footage and surveillance. During interrogation, Akash revealed the involvement of another accomplice, Gajanan.

According to Akash’s statement, he and Gajanan had ordered two high-end mobile phones via Cash on Delivery (COD). When Bharat arrived to deliver the phones, they strangled him after he failed to provide the payment. They then stuffed his body into a sack and disposed of it in the Indiranahar canal, located in the Barabanki district. In addition, they also stole Rs 35,000 from Bharat’s possession and left his motorcycle in the Indiranagar area.

The accused in the Lucknow case ordered Vivo V40 pro and Google pixel 7 pro from the E-commerce site.

Shashank Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), stated that the murder was carried out solely to avoid paying for the mobile phones. "The police are investigating the matter from all angles," he added. Efforts are underway by both the police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to recover Bharat Kumar's body, which has not yet been found. The authorities are also searching for Gajanan, who is still at large and was previously a delivery boy for Flipkart, making him known to the victim.

The incident has instilled fear among delivery personnel across the city, and Bharat's family has been informed about his tragic death. Prem Kumar, Bharat's younger brother, expressed his heartbreak, revealing his brother's last moments before leaving home.
