“I wish the FM had copied some other ideas in the Congress Manifesto,” he said.

On the abolition of the Angel Tax, Mr. Chidambaram said the Congress pleaded for its abolition for several years and even mentioned the same in the party manifesto.

Ms. Sitharaman presented the Budget for 2024-25 on Tuesday, her seventh straight presentation surpassing the record of former prime minister Morarji Desai. This was the first Budget during Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s third term in office.

In the Budget, the government has identified nine priorities for generating ample opportunities. These include productivity and resilience in agriculture, employment and skilling, inclusive human resource development and social justice, manufacturing and service, urban development, energy security, infrastructure, innovation, research and development and next generation reforms.

Ms. Sitharaman also made major announcements for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, including a boost in infrastructure and special financial support. She also announced abolishing angel tax for all classes of investors in startups.
