The US House Oversight Committee on Monday subpoenaed Alexander Mayorkas, the Homeland Security Secretary, due to 'serious concern' over Democratic Party VP candidate, Governor Tim Walz's alleged links to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). GOP Rep James Comer, who chairs the House oversight committee, sent a letter to Mayorkas to appear before the House and furnish details on Walz's alleged CCP links.

Comer also wrote a letter to Christopher Wray, the Director of the FBI, asking him to share information regarding Walz's alleged conversations with CCP associates.

Amid that, here's what the allegations say:

House GOP Investigation

The GOP-led Oversight Committee launched an investigation into Walz's visits to China and his alleged links to the CCP. Republicans in the Oversight Committee also claimed that Walz visited China at least 30 times and was associated with an institution that is loyal to the CCP.

In a fresh update Monday, committee chair Comer said that they have received new whistleblower information that several employees of the Homeland Security Department have allegedly expressed concern over Walz's ties to the CCP. Comer said that the information regarding the same was obtained via a screenshot of Microsoft Teams chat used by DHS employees.

October 7 Deadline

The Committee has given a deadline of October 7, 2024, for Mayorkas to appear before the House. Along with providing information on the Microsoft Teams chat, the committee has also asked Mayorkas to come up with regional information reports and intelligence notes starting November 2023 on Walz and his office staff in Minnesota.

Did Walz Visit China?

As per reports, Tim Walz spent a year in China working as a teacher in 1989. Later, as a teacher in Minnesota, he took his students on field trips to China at least around 12 times.
