The PWR DUPR India Masters is set to mark a significant milestone in the Indian pickleball scene. As the inaugural event of the PWR DUPR Indian Tour, it will be held at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association Stadium from October 24 to 27. Following this, it will make a pit stop in Mumbai, then Ahmedabad (March 2025), Pune (June 2025), Bengaluru (August 2025), Hyderabad (September 2025), New Delhi (October 2025), and Chennai (November 2025).

One of the unique aspects of the PWR DUPR India Masters is its use of the Minor League Pickleball format, in the Battle of the Leagues. MLP is based on teamwork and strategy. But what makes it different?

The Battle of the Leagues will follow the dink Minor League official game format.

What Are The Categories In This Event?

The Battle of the Leagues will have three categories, DUPR 12, DUPR 16 and DUPR 20. An individual can feature in only one of these three categories.

In DUPR 12, the team's maximum aggregate should be 12.3. At the time of enrollment for the tournament, individual player ratings should not be more than 3.6.

In DUPR 16, the team's maximum aggregate should be 16.3. Individual player ratings shouldn't be more than 4.6 at the time of registration.

In DUPR 20, the team's maximum aggregate should be 20.9. Once a team has registered for the team event, their ratings are locked and any increase or decrease will not be calculated during the duration of the tournament. The date of the team's registration will be considered as the lock-in date for the ratings.

In case an amateur with no DUPR rating decides to play, he/she is assumed to be the average of the division they register for. For example, if a player registers for DUPR 12, the assumed rating is three. The remaining three players' aggregate should not be more than 9.3 in that case.

Notably, the tournament director still has the discretion to overrule any such decisions and award the concerned player a rating according to his analysis.

What is the dink Minor League Pickleball Format?

It is a unique team competition where squads of four players compete against each other. Teams compete against each other in the MLPlay format.

In the MLPlay format, each match has to be played in four 21-point games. If both teams are tied at 2-all after the end of the four games, the match will move into a dreambreaker. In the dream breaker, one person from each team is assigned to play singles. The players are switched after every four rallies and the match continues until one team reaches 21 points and wins by a two-point margin.

The tournaments under dink MLP are played in a round-robin format, with each player having to play six matches. Top teams then face each other in a bracket playoff.

What is the Reward for the Battle of the Leagues?

The winning teams in each category will be sent to the US for taking part in the US National Event which will be conducted by the dink MLP. The winning teams will progress to the second stage of the Battle of the Leagues leading to the final which will be a whopping one million dollar prize money event.
