BCCI didn’t make any change to the Indian squad as they named the same 16 member contingent for the second Test against Bangladesh. India thrashed Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test against Chennai.
India opted for a three pacer and two spinners setup in the first Test and a few players were expected to be rested for the second Test. But the management retained the same squad for the second Test which is slated to start on September 27 in Kanpur.
Kuldeep Yadav is a part of the existing Test squad but the left arm spinner didn’t take part in the first Test. Kuldeep made his red ball debut in 2017 and since then has taken 53 wickets in 12 matches.
He was last seen in the England series earlier this year and Sanjay Manjrekar believes Kuldeep should be a part of the starting lineup in Kanpur in the second Test. The former Indian cricketer and eminent commentator explained the Delhi Capitals spinner would have been pretty effective on the red soil pitch in Chennai.
While speaking on ESPN Cricinfo he said, "I feel Kuldeep Yadav should not be dropped so easily. I believe that even if it was not a turner, India would have benefited from playing Kuldeep Yadav in Chennai because the seamers will get help for just one or one-and-a-half days on an Indian pitch. It starts supporting spinners after that and when you have a bowler like Kuldeep Yadav, you should not keep him out this easily."
"India should go with this approach in Kanpur. Even if it's a green top and the sun is out, they should keep in mind that the green top will be just for the first few hours, and Siraj and Bumrah are enough for that. When you have three proven spinners, you should play all of them."
