Raaj Shaandilyaa has promised to transport to audience to the ‘90s era with his upcoming directorial titled Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri in titular roles, the film is a romantic comedy revolving around the case of a missing CD containing the couple’s intimate video.
For the first time, Rajkummar and Triptii are being paired together on-screen. Talking about casting the actors for Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, Raaj praised them as today’s superstars and they agreed to do the film instantly.
'Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri are superstars'
Raaj told Zoom exclusively, “Dono iss time ke superstars hai. Dono alag tarike ke hai. Ek Bhabhi 2 hai aur ek Bhaiya no. 1 hai. Maine jab unko kahani sunayi, character sunaya toh unhone turant haan kiya. Unhe bohot pasand aaya. Full and final narration joh thi voh shooting ke ek hafte pehle maine unko di thi. Uske pehle sirf character aur kahani hi sunayi thi. Voh bohot impress huye.”
(Translation: They are today’s superstars. Rajkummar and Triptii have their own styles. One is Bhabhi 2, the other is Bhaiya No 1. When I took the story and characters to them, they loved it and came on board immediately. I gave them the final narration just a week before going on floors. Rajkummar and Triptii were impressed.)

Adding further, the director revealed the reason behind setting the story in the ‘90s. “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video ‘90s ka era hai. Mere co-writer ne bas yeh socha tha ki ek couple ka intimate video public ho jata hai. Maine phir kahani ki ko ‘90s mein leke gaya kyunki tab CD ke zamane mein videos ek jagah se dusri jagah aasani se nahi jaa pati. Uske baad, maine chote sheher mein base kiya kyunki voh kahaniya zyada interesting hoti hai.”
(Translation: Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is set in the ‘90s. My co-writer came up with the idea of a couple who face difficulty after an intimate video is accessible to the public. Then, I took the story to the ‘90s because back then, it wasn’t easy for videos to get leaked. Telling a small-town story in that era fascinated me.)
