Set in Imperial Japan, Shogun is this addictively woven samurai tale which combines political vendettas, historic battles, and power dynamics. The show won 18 Emmys for its first season. For those who don't know, Shogun follows the journey of two ambitious men: John Blackthorne — an enterprising English sailor who lands in Japan, shipwrecked and Lord Toranaga — a ruthless and formidable daimyo with treacherous political rivals.

Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada
The scene with Osaka castle have actually been shot at the former Flavelle Sawmill in Port Moody. This is a beautiful town located just 25.4km away from Vancouver. Some scenes were also shot at the Rocky Point Public Boat Launch in Port Moody.
Minaty Bay, British Columbia, Canada
When the ship is taken to Ajiro, a village ruled by Kashigi Omi – this sequence was shot at Minaty Bay in British Columbia. This is a popular shooting location which also featured as Camp Halfblood in the Percy Jackson series.
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Located in Western Canada, Vancouver forms the backdrop of many crucian plot points in the series. Some parts of the show were also filmed at West Vancouver’s Whytecliff Park. This park has previously made an appearance in celebrated series and movies like Legion and Siren.
Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada
Coquitlam’s magnificent landscape has served as the perfect backdrop for the series’ historical relevance. The parking lot of Coquitlam’s Swiss Canadian Mountain Range Association was used for portraying the Upper Ajiro Village.
London, UK
One of the scenes of the series have been shot in London. It is when Lord Yoshii Toranaga is riding a horse by a fire.
Japan
Not many know but the entire series was originally supposed to be shot here. However, due to COVID-19 and production delays, the crew recreated most sets in Canada. They did manage to shoot a few establishing shots in Japan.
