How to remove stains from Kanchipuram Silk Sarees
Here's a guide to effectively tackle oil stains on silk sarees:
Immediate Blotting
The first rule of dealing with fresh stains is to never let them linger. Addressing an oil stain quickly is crucial and you can start by gently blotting the area with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel. Silk sarees, including those made of pattu silk, are delicate, so avoid rubbing, which can spread the stain or damage the fibers. Make sure you remove as much of the stain as possible without pushing it further into the fabric.
Absorbent Powders
As soon as you can, apply an absorbent powder such as baking soda, cornstarch, or talcum powder to the stain. These powders help to draw out the oil from the fabric. Sprinkle a generous amount over the stained area and let it sit for several hours or overnight to fully absorb the oil. Once the waiting period is over, gently brush off the powder using a soft brush or cloth.
Cold Water Rinse
Following the powder treatment, rinse the stained area under a gentle stream of cold water. This step helps to remove any residual oil and powder. Ensure the water is cold, as hot water can set the stain permanently.
Mild Soap Solution
If the stain persists after the initial treatments, prepare a mild soap solution by mixing a few drops of gentle liquid soap with cold water. Dampen a clean cloth with this soapy water and gently dab the stained area. Make sure you do NOT scrub the stain. Once you are done, rinse with more cold water.
