Pink, starring Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan, clocked 8 years on September 16. In an exclusive interview withZoom, director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury spoke about the film’s relevant theme, and here’s what he said:
To this day, Pink remains a case study in cinema of protest.
I feel truly happy thatPink resonates with people even after eight years. I am grateful that the audience still finds the core thought of the film socially relevant. ‘No Means No ‘ is like a chant.
We hear it everywhere today, especially in Kolkata, where a woman has lately been brutally violated and killed.
Yes, it resonates with the reality today. The warm response from my audience will keep inspiring me to make meaningful social films with a message always.
How much do you attribute the impact of the ‘No Means No’ line to Mr. Bachchan?
I have always said ‘No Means No’ from Mr. Bachchan, who entered every generation's mind, both men and women. Even now, in all reference, it comes! It has become the most relevant slogan! And do you know what the best part is?

What?
The best part is, you know, almost every day I get some messages or some tags regarding Pink in my social media. You know, it really gives me so much energy, so much happiness. And if you make a film that stays with people forever or for some time and finds its relevance in society, then you have used cinema as toof of reform.
That must please you?
Oh yes, I find it really, really fulfilling. I feel very happy. I feel extremely happy. Someone just sent me a message on Instagram about ‘No Means No’. They create memes, and they send me the poetry. You know, so it's amazing. I'm so thankful to everybody who made Pink possible.
What next?
I have just completed shooting my Bengali film, Dear Ma. I am making a Bengali film after ten years. I am completing the post-production as we speak.
