Jodie Foster clinched her first Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series or Movie at the 76th Annual Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 16. Her role in True Detective: Night Country secured her victory after four prior nominations. "This is an incredibly emotional moment for me," Foster remarked. She triumphed over nominees Brie Larson (Lessons in Chemistry), Juno Temple (Fargo), Naomi Watts (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans), and Sofía Vergara (Griselda).

Foster also ended the True Detective franchise's Emmy losing streak with her win. Previous stars of the series—Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, and Mahershala Ali—hadn't achieved this recognition despite their acclaim.
The win marked a significant milestone for Foster, a two-time Oscar winner. Her first Emmy nomination was in 1999 as a producer for The Baby Dance, which lost to A Lesson Before Dying. In 2014, she was nominated for Best Director of a Comedy Series for Orange Is the New Black, but lost to Gail Mancuso of Modern Family. This Emmy win is her first acting award from the TV Academy. Foster is also nominated for Best Limited Series as an executive producer of Night Country.
In other notable wins, Jessica Gunning took home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role in Baby Reindeer. Elizabeth Debicki won her first Emmy for portraying Princess Diana in The Crown, earning Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Jeremy Allen White was honored with Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for The Bear, marking his second consecutive win. “My heart is just beating outside of its chest,” he said. Jean Smart won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks.
