bank holidays in september: will banks remain closed on eid-e-milad and ganesh visarjan? check here

Indian banks, both public and commercial, will remain close for many holidays in September 2024, including Eid-e-Milad, Ganesh Visarjan, and regional celebrations. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will be closed on September 18 to celebrate Eid-e-Milad. Originally slated for September 16, the Maharashtra government and community leaders moved the date to prevent a clash with Anant Chaturdashi, the day of Ganesh Visarjan.

If you require banking services during these closures, digital options such as internet banking, smartphone apps, and ATMs will continue to operate, unless otherwise stated. To avoid disruptions, it is advised that all in-branch events be planned ahead of time.

Other regional closures include holidays in Jammu and Kashmir on September 23 to mark Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary and in Kerala again on September 21 for Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day.

Long Weekend Ahead

For residents in some states, the week starting September 21 offers a long weekend. In Kerala, banks will be closed on Saturday, September 21, followed by a nationwide Sunday closure on September 22. In Haryana, banks will also observe a holiday on Monday, September 23, in honor of Heroes’ Martyrdom Day.

Total Bank Holidays in September

Overall, banks will observe at least 14 holidays across India in September 2024, including weekends, regional festivals, and religious observances. These holidays may vary depending on the state, so checking with your local branch or app notifications is advisable.

Key dates include September 16 (Barawafat/Milad-un-Nabi), September 18 (Pang-Lhabsol in Sikkim), and September 23 (Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary).
