Lucknow: A nine-year-old student passed away while playing on the premises of his school on Saturday. The incident took place at Montfort School in Lucknow.
The Principal of the school said she rushed the Class 3 student to nearby Fatima Hospital after receiving information that she had fallen unconscious in the playground. The student was identified as Manvi Singh.
The girl's family took her to Chandan Hospital, where the doctors said that she died due to cardiac arrest, the principal said. After receiving information about the girl's death, a holiday was declared in the school on Friday.
The matter also came to the notice of the police, but the girl's family had said that no action would be taken, they said.
SHO, Mahanagar, Akhilesh Mishra, said that the girl's family visited the police station to submit a written statement expressing that they do not wish to pursue any legal action regarding her death.
"They informed us that the girl had been unwell for the past few years and was undergoing treatment," he said.
"Given her health condition, they believe her fall was related to her illness, and therefore, no further investigation is necessary," said the SHO. The principal of Montfort Inter College, Brother Jinu Abraham, told TOI that the girl was intelligent and good in studies.
"She suffered cardiac arrest and was taken to Fatima Hospital immediately. It is an unfortunate incident," he said.
This is the second incident of a minor's sudden death in school in the past one year. On Sept 20 last year, a class 9 student at City Montessori School's Aliganj campus died after he collapsed in his chemistry class. Doctors had suspected the student, Atif Siddiqui, died of cardiac arrest. He was first taken to a nearby medical facility where he was given treatment and was referred to KGMU's cardiology department, where he was pronounced dead.
