India wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel left quite an impression in his debut Test series. Jurel was picked in team India after KL Rahul was ruled out due to injury, and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Jurel made an immediate impact for India after scoring 46 in his maiden Test innings in Rajkot. He followed the knock with a vital innings of 90 in the fourth Test in Ranchi to lift India to 307 from a scary position of 177-7.
His knock proved pivotal as India got close to England's first-inning total of 353 and reduced the deficit. India then bowled out England for 145 in the second innings and won the game by five wickets. Jurel was given the 'Player of the Match' award for his stunning effort.
Dhruv Jurel Stands Tall Against England Attack
England tried all they had in the tank to rattle Jurel but to no avail. The Indian batter was surprised even Joe Root, who played with him at the Rajasthan Royals, sledged him. Jurel revealed he asked Root why he is sledging him and got a stunning reply in return from England great.Related News |

“I was on 32-34, England took the new ball. And I knew (James) Anderson will be back and he was also quite aggressive because they knew the partnership is growing,” Jurel told sports broadcaster Jatin Sapru on his YouTube channel.
“I decided to not listen to them. I knew if I end up listening, it will rankle me. So, I decided to completely ignore them. Jonny Bairstow came and even Joe Root joined. I was shocked because Root and I play together in IPL, and I said, “Bhai Joe Root, aap kyun sledge kar rahe ho? (Why are you sledging me?) He replied: ‘This is what professionalism is, we are all playing for our country now’,” he added.
Meanwhile, Jurel was rewarded for his stunning show in the England series with a place in the India squad for the Test series against Bangladesh. With Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul back, however, it might be tough for Durel to get a slot in first playing XI.
