India wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel has said that just before his Test debut, skipper Rohit Sharma backed him to play his shots, but only while being completely sure of its outcome. After consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy, Jurel was called up for the England Tests earlier this year and gave a match-winning performance in Ranchi, reminding one and all of the local lad MS Dhoni.
The Test selection earlier this year was Jurel's maiden call-up to the Indian squad and the nerves were high for him. Expectedly, he was meeting quite a few of the senior players up and close for the first time and Rohit was one of them.
Jurel said that he did not dare to talk to Rohit and it was the latter who invited him to have a chat during a practice session.

“I had eye contact with Rohit bhaiya on many occasions, but I couldn’t muster the courage to talk to him. Then, he casually called me, ‘idhar aa! (come here!)’. Then he said, ‘Kya ho gaya? Jurel found himself behind the wickets after replacing an out-of-form KS Bharat in India's playing XI and played a big role in India's 4-1 series victory over England. He also played two T20Is for India, against Zimbabwe in July.
Jurel narrated an incident where he was hit on the shoulder during throwdowns and senior players like Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer came and shook hands with him, albeit sarcastically.

Where Has Dhruv Jurel Been?
The youngster was in action for India A against India B in the first round of Duleep Trophy matches but could score just 2 and 0 in two innings. Jurel has been called up for the first Test against Bangladesh but might have to warm the bench with Rishabh Pant returning to the fold.
