Several social media users, including Elon Musk, posted pictures of former president Donald Trump holding cats and ducks. This comes after the Republican presidential nominee's running mate was fact-checked about his claim about Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio eating pets and local wildlife. The controversy began after right-wing users tweeted about 27-year-old Allexis Telia Ferrell being charged with animal cruelty. According to reports, she allegedly killed a cat and consumed it in front of multiple witnesses on August 16.
Right-wing accounts associated Ferrell to Haitian immigrants. One person tweeted: "When you let a 3rd world country into your country, you become a 3rd world country. Close the border and save our cats.”
