mumbai mulund society residents' early morning shock as they spot 9-foot-long crocodile

Mumbai: A nine-foot-long crocodile was rescued from a residential society in Mumbai on Sunday morning, a wildlife welfare group representative said, quoted PTI. A call was given to the forest department control room about a huge crocodile at the Nirmal Lifestyle housing society in Mulund area.

The members of the Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) later led a rescue operation in coordination with forest officials, the PTI report said.

The rescued female Indian Marsh crocodile was sent for medical examination and then was released into its natural habitat, said Pawar Sharma, founder of the RAWW and honorary wildlife warden with the forest department, quoted PTI.

This comes days after a similar incident was reported from Gujarat's Vadodara where a crocodile was seen on the rooftop of a house and another inside a house due to heavy flood in the region. Torrential rain in the state caused severe flooding and the reptiles were seen by the residents and their mere visuals sent shockwaves through their spines.

Vadodara banks the Vishwamitri river and surging water levels caused the river to spill into the city, forcing over 15,000 to relocate. Well, not only humans but crocodiles also got displaced because of the situation. A crocodile was captured and rescued by the Vadodara Forest Department and in the video, two officials were seen taking the reptile on a Honda Activa for relocation, with its mouth taped.

Recently, a float of five mugger crocodiles was said to have been filmed swimming across the Vishwamitri. Aerial footage from the sighting shows a dead prey, likely a cow or a dog, being dragged along the water by one of the predators.
