'don't test patience of people': west bengal governor slams mamata-led govt over rg kar case

New Delhi: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Thursday targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led state government over the rape-murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and also warned the Mamata Banerjee-led government “not to test the patience of the people”.

The West Bengal Governor alleged that the law is there but it not being implemented properly. He said that a portion of the police is criminalised and politicized.

"Parents (of the victim) have told me certain things which is very, very heart-breaking. They also gave to me in writing that I have taken up with the Home Minister. Within two days we started seeing action. Their feelings we understand. What they want is also justice. The entire Bengal society seeks justice. Justice will be done. Justice should be done," West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose said.

"What I see in Bengal today, especially the administration is going from wrong to wrong. They should realize two wrongs, even if they are mutually contradictory, will not constitute one right," he added.

He further emphasized that the government has to act and it has to take the people in confidence.

Slamming the West Bengal government, CV Ananda Bose said, "The wrongdoers should be brought to book. Punishment should be given. People should feel that they can expect justice from the government, now that feeling is not there. This is the condition of Bengal today- the law is there but it is not being implemented properly or certain people are given protective discrimination by law. The police, a portion of the police is criminalised, a portion is corrupt and a portion of it is politicised."

Further, warning the state government not to test the patience of the people, he said, "That's where the people has come forward. I am sure that the voice of the people is the voice of the god. People want action, not an alibi for an action. Don't test the patience of the people."

Earlier in the day, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shared a letter allegedly signed by former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, ordering renovation work near the college's seminar hall where the body of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was found on the intervening night of August 8 and 9. The viral letter, dated August 10, directs repair work just a day after the horrific incident.

Multiple news reports have suggested that Ghosh had ordered renovations near the seminar hall, fueling speculations of potential evidence tampering.

West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Mazumdar took to X to share a letter allegedly signed by Sandip Ghosh, that ordered renovation work citing a lack of proper and separate doctors' rooms and washrooms.

“The order, signed by Sandip Ghosh, former director of RG Kar Medical College, is dated August 10, just one day after the victim’s death. Despite allegations from colleagues and protesters about tampering with the crime scene, the Police Commissioner denied it,"Sukanta Mazumdar said in a post on X.
