After a break of two months from international cricket, Travis Head resumed from where he had stopped as Australia returned to action for the first time since their 2024 T20 World Cup exit after a defeat to India. The star Australian batter showed no sign of any rustiness as he was the main force behind a stunning seven-wicket victory for the 2021 world champions with 62 balls to spare.
Chasing a big total of 155 on Wednesday (September 4) at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh, Head made 80 runs in 25 balls while Marsh scored a quick-fire 12-ball 29 as the visitors reached the total in just 9.4 overs. After a duck for Jake Fraser Mcgurk, Head and Marsh helped Australia put in 113 runs in six overs, which is the highest total by a full-member nation in the powerplay in T20I cricket.

Head's knock of 80 in 25 balls came with a stunning strike rate of 320. He is the first-ever player from a full-member nation in world cricket to score a knock at a scoring rate of above 300 after facing 20 balls or more. Head's knock is the second fastest in international cricket among players to face more than 20 balls in an innings behind Estonia's Sahil Chauhan but the quickest among players representing a Test-playing nation.
Before Head, the quickest knock in T20Is by a player from a full member country was by Mohammad Nabi, who made a 30-ball 89 against Ireland in 2017 at Greater Noida. Quinton de Kock, David Miller, and Colin Munro follow him on the list.

The left-handed opener reached his half-century in just 17 balls which is the joint quickest by an Australian batter alongside Marcus Stoinis. Head’s total of 73 runs made in the powerplay is the most by a batter in the first six overs of a T20I innings.
Head has been in stunning form across all formats with the highlight of his career coming last year as he won the Player of the Match (POTM) in both the semi-final and final of the 2023 Cricket World Cup as Australia lifted the trophy for the sixth time.
In the 2024 T20 World Cup, he was a lone shining light in a disappointing campaign for Australia as he finished as the third leading run-getter of the tournament with 255 runs in seven innings at an average of 42.50 and a strike-rate of 158.38 with two half-centuries.
Head was also the the fourth-highest run-getter in the 2024 IPL playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with a stunning tally of 567 runs in 15 innings at a strike rate of 191.5.
