Mumbai: Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Sangli to unveil the statue of Congress stalwart and former minister late Patangrao Kadam.
All India Congress committee chief Mallikarjun Kharge and NCP chief Sharad Pawar will also be present for the event which will be held on the Teacher's Day on September 5.
Vishwajeet Kadam, son of Patangrao Kadam, had personally invited Uddhav Thackeray as well but confirmed Shiv Sena chief will not be able to attend owing to prior commitments.
Patangrao Kadam, known for his contributions to education, founded the Bharati Vidyapeeth deemed university. He also held several key ministerial positions during the Congress-led governments in Maharashtra.
On whether the Congress will be kickstarting it's poll campaign during Rahul Gandhi's Sangli visit, Vishwajeet said, "The event in Sangli is about honouring the legacy of late Patangrao Kadam. We will be holding a rally of around four lakh people with Rahul Gandhi and Sharad Pawar leading us."
