Cranbourne Melbourne and surrounding areas in Victoria, Australia is battling severe weather on Monday. Residenta have been warned for one of the worst weather events of the year, equivalent to a category three cyclone. Winds lashed the state on Sunday and SES chief officer Tim Wiebusch said such strong were seen only every 'three to five years'. The harsh weather has disrupted everyday life – with power outages, flight and metro delays and road closures being reported.
According to local media reports, winds reached 146 kilometres per hour in Victoria. Several trees fell and roads were closed. Reports further add that about 140,000 properties were without power in Victoria's east, Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula.
