Hyderabad: Heavy rain lashed parts of the city on Sunday amid a Red alert by the India Meteorology Department (IMD) and a warning for more showers across the state of Telangana. Low-lying areas, roads have been severely flooded. The state government is on high alert and CM Revanth Reddy has asked all government department officials to be prepared for emergency situations.
The CM spoke to Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari and instructed her to ensure that the officials of the Revenue, Municipal, Electricity, and Health Departments are on high alert.
Dr K Nagaratnam, Director of the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, said, that Telangana is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall for the next 3 days.
"Red warning had been issued for today and tomorrow in Telangana. East and North East districts have been issued red warning and north & south districts have been issued orange warning for today and tomorrow. All districts have been issued heavy rainfall warning. GHMC will have moderate rains and heavy rains at certain times. Hyderabad is issued orange warning for today and tomorrow," Nagaratnam said, PTI.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert and predicted heavy rain in several districts including Rajanna Sirsilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri, Medak of Telangana on Sunday.
Officials have been instructed to take all measures to prevent any untoward incidents and keep moving people from the low-lying areas to safer locations.
Several trains have also been cancelled on the Vijayawada-Kazipet route as tracks are flooded due to overflooding from lakes and streams. 24 trains were stopped on this route, as per IANS. Damaged railway tracks at a few places in Mahabubabad district forced the South Central Railway to cancel trains on the Vijayawada-Kazipet route.
The cancelled trains include Vijayawada-Secunderabad (12713), Secunderabad-Vijayawada (12714), Guntur-Secunderabad (17201), Secunderabad-Sirpur Kaghaznagar (17233), Secunderabad-Guntur (12706) and Guntur-Secunderabad (12705), the report added.
